Celebrate Independence Day Under the Stars
As we draw closer to the 4th of July, the excitement for celebration grows, particularly for apartment renters seeking local festivities. This year, the North Carolina Transportation Museum is hosting Fireworks Over Historic Spencer Shops on June 27, 2026, an event designed to gather community members in a festive spirit.
A Convenient Family-Friendly Event
Located just a short 45-minute drive from Charlotte, the museum opens its grounds for this special occasion, welcoming residents from Concord, Kannapolis, and beyond. And the best part? Admission is free! With limited exhibits open until fireworks start, families can enjoy various activities designed for children starting at 6 p.m.
Free Activities for Kids and Families
As families arrive, the grounds will feature an array of activities that young attendees will love, including:
- Balloon Twister Artist and Patriotic Stilt Walker
- Bouncy Houses and Inflatables
- DJ Music alongside Dance Activities
- A Scavenger Hunt with Maude the Mule
- Engaging Lawn Games like Cornhole
Setting up with a chair or blanket to enjoy these activities also allows families to bond while creating a vibrant atmosphere of community togetherness.
Special Performances to Enhance the Evening
To add to the festivities, a heartfelt performance by Letters From Home, a USO-style duet, is scheduled between 7 - 8:05 p.m. This performance celebrates our nation's history and the spirit of togetherness in a way that resonates with diverse audiences.
Fireworks Show to Conclude the Festivities
The grand finale, a fireworks spectacle starting at 9:15 p.m., will celebrate our country’s 250th anniversary, providing a breathtaking display in the night sky. Attendees can find the best viewpoint in front of the Bob Julian Roundhouse. Remember to check the weather in case timing adjustments are necessary!
All Aboard the ‘Firecracker Express’
A standout feature of the night is the Firecracker Express Train Ride, which offers a trip on a vintage passenger railcar pulled by a diesel locomotive throughout the properties of the museum. The ride lasts around 25 minutes, providing a history-focused tour of the historic Spencer Shops. Prices range from $9.75 for children aged 3-12 to $12 for adults, everyone receiving a lovely souvenir.
What to Bring for a Fun Evening
For a comfortable experience, it's advisable to pack a lawn chair or blanket and do a little pre-planning for food, as various vendors will be on-site serving delicious options. Just keep in mind that while coolers are permitted, the event is alcohol-free, ensuring a family-oriented experience for everyone.
