He explicitly states, “Retention is key,” emphasizing that maintaining experienced officers is just as critical as recruiting new members. Achieving this will require not only new hires but also advocating for better pay and resources for existing staff—a strategy highlighted by Patterson during her tenure.

He noted, “I need to make sure my officers are well… to make sure they have everything they need when it comes to their physical health and mental health.” This holistic approach aligns with best practices in law enforcement today, recognizing that a supported officer is a more effective officer.
